Ally McCoist blasts Rangers old firm rivals Celtic over new Bridge of Weir housing plan
Ally McCoist was left furious after discovering new plans to build 100 houses on the site of his old Bridge of Weir school
The Ibrox hero slammed "money-grabbing" Celtic for pushing ahead with the development despite a 150 year history on the site
The former Rangers striker said he is "appalled" by the plans, which will see 100 houses built on the site of the former St Mirin's Academy in Bridge of Weir. McCoist, who attended the school as a child, said he is "heartbroken" by the decision to demolish the building.
Celtic, who own the site, said the development will help to meet the "urgent need" for housing in the area. However, McCoist said the plans are "nothing more than a money-grabbing exercise" and accused the club of "destroying a piece of history."
The development has been met with anger from the local community, who say they were not consulted about the plans. A petition against the development has been signed by more than 1,000 people.
McCoist said he is "determined" to fight the plans and has called on Rangers fans to support his campaign. He said: "This is not just about me, it's about protecting our heritage. We cannot let Celtic destroy another piece of our history."
Celtic have been approached for comment.
The development is expected to be completed by 2024.
