Arda Güler plays 86 minutes in Turkey’s 0-0 draw with Wales
Turkey and Wales played out a goalless draw in their international friendly on Thursday, with Arda Güler playing 86 minutes for the Crescent-Stars.
The game was Turkey’s first under new manager Stefan Kuntz, and the German will have been pleased with his team’s performance, especially in the first half.
Turkey started the game brightly and created several chances in the opening stages, with Güler at the heart of everything. The Fenerbahçe midfielder was causing Wales problems with his clever movement and passing, and he came close to scoring on several occasions.
Wales gradually grew into the game, and they had their chances to win it in the second half. Gareth Bale had a couple of good chances, but he was unable to find the back of the net.
In the end, a draw was probably a fair result. Turkey were the better side in the first half, but Wales were stronger in the second. Both teams will be able to take positives from the game as they prepare for their upcoming Nations League matches.
For Turkey, the draw was a good start under Kuntz. The German will be hoping to build on this performance when Turkey face the Faroe Islands in their Nations League opener on Sunday.
