Australia’s women's rugby team wins world cup with 2 point masterful conversion

The Wallabies fell agonizingly short of winning the Rugby World Cup final after the Springboks of South Africa held on for a dramatic 29-27 victory.

The Wallabies have bravely pushed South Africa to the very end. Australia was down 27-19 with three minutes left in the game. They had a lineout just five meters out from the South African try line. When they failed to score from the lineout, it seemed all was lost, but then Tate McDermott darted through a small gap to score under the posts.

The conversion would have tied the game, but Quade Cooper’s dramatic conversion attempt hit the upright, giving South Africa their third World Cup title.

It was a heartbreakingly agonizing loss, but coach Dave Rennie says he can't fault the Wallabies performance defying the odds to make the final after two years of COVID-enforced disruption.

"Those boys left everything out there, and I can't fault their effort," Rennie said. "It's tough to take, but hey, we'll learn a lot from this."
