Blues boss questions the consistency of refereeing in the wake of draw with Torquay
Paul Simpson has questioned the consistency of refereeing after seeing his Carlisle United side denied a penalty in their draw with Torquay United.
Carlisle were held to a 1-1 draw at Plainmoor on Saturday afternoon, with Simpson left frustrated by the officials' decision not to award his side a penalty in the second half.
Speaking after the game, Simpson said that referee Robert Lewis is a "good referee" but that he was "disappointed" with his decision not to award a penalty. He said: "I thought it was a penalty. I've seen it back on video and I think it's a clear penalty. The referee is a good referee, but I'm disappointed with his decision on that one.
Simpson also said that he was concerned by the consistency of refereeing in League Two. He said: "I think there needs to be more consistency in the refereeing. I've seen some decisions given this season that I think have been poor. I think we need to have a look at the refereeing in this league and make sure that it's up to scratch."
Carlisle are now unbeaten in their last four games, but Simpson would have been disappointed to only take a point from a game that they dominated. The Cumbrians had the better chances throughout the game, but they were unable to find a winner.
Simpson said that he was "frustrated" by his side's inability to win the game. He said: "I'm frustrated that we didn't win the game. I thought we did enough to win the game. We had the better chances, but we just couldn't find the winner.
Carlisle will be back in action on Tuesday night when they host Crawley Town at Brunton Park. Simpson will be hoping that his side can build on their recent good form and pick up three points.
