Cambridge Have ‘Motivation’ To Beat Barnsley Insists Garry Monk
Garry Monk has insisted Cambridge have the ‘motivation’ to beat Sky Bet League One leaders Barnsley on Saturday.
Monk’s comments come after Cambridge’s 2-1 win over Morecambe on Tuesday night, which moved them up to 14th in the table.
The U’s are now seven points above the relegation zone and 10 points behind Barnsley.
Monk said: “We’ve got the motivation to beat Barnsley, having lost last week. We’ve got a big game this weekend. We cannot look to see who we play. We’ve got to try to get points on the board and we’ll see where that takes us.
“We’ve got some good players. You’ve got to try to get the best out of what you’ve got. The result against Morecambe was a step in the right direction but we’re not getting carried away.
“We’ve got to go into the next game with the same attitude and try to get a similar result.”
Barnsley are unbeaten in their last six games, winning four and drawing two.
Monk said: “Barnsley are a good side. They’re top of the league for a reason. They’ve got some good players and they’re well-organised.
“But we’ve got to believe we can beat them. We’ve got to go into the game with the right attitude and try to get a positive result.
“We’ve got to be confident and believe we can beat anyone in this league. We’ve got to go into the game with that belief and try to get a positive result.”
