Chris McCausland’s Strictly diary: ‘I play Uno with my daughter to teach her about handling defeats in life’
Strictly Come Dancing star Chris McCausland has revealed he plays Uno with his daughter to teach her about handling defeats in life.
The professional dancer, who is partnered with Coronation Street star Kym Marsh on the BBC show, said he wants his eight-year-old daughter Isla to learn how to deal with disappointment in a healthy way.
He told The Sun: “I play Uno with Isla and she gets so frustrated when she loses. I tell her, ‘That’s life. You’re not always going to win.’ It’s important for kids to learn that it’s OK to lose sometimes.”
McCausland said he also tries to teach Isla about the importance of perseverance.
He said: “I tell her, ‘If you don’t succeed at something the first time, don’t give up. Keep trying and you’ll eventually get there.’ I think it’s important for kids to learn that anything is possible if you put your mind to it.”
McCausland’s comments come after he and Marsh were eliminated from Strictly Come Dancing in the semi-final.
The couple were widely praised for their performances throughout the series, and many fans were disappointed to see them go.
However, McCausland said he was proud of what he and Marsh had achieved.
He said: “I’m so grateful for the opportunity to have danced with Kym. She’s an amazing woman and I’ve learned so much from her. I’m going to miss dancing with her, but I know she’s going to go on to do great things.”
