Craig Bellamy Tips Wales to Avoid Nations League Relegation
Wales avoided relegation from the UEFA Nations League's top tier with a dramatic 1-0 victory over rivals Türkiye in Cardiff.
Kieffer Moore's second-half header proved decisive as the Dragons ended their winless run in the competition to preserve their League A status. The win was Wales' first in the Nations League since June 2022 and gives them a lifeline in the competition.
Wales' performance was a vast improvement on their dismal display in the 2-1 home defeat to Poland last month. They were more composed in possession and created several good chances, with Gareth Bale and Brennan Johnson both going close before Moore's winner.
The victory was a much-needed boost for Wales manager Rob Page, who had come under pressure after a run of poor results. It also gives Wales something to build on as they prepare for the 2024 European Championship qualifiers, which begin in March.
Former Wales international Craig Bellamy believes the win over Türkiye could be a turning point for the team.
"It was a huge win for Wales," Bellamy said. "They needed to win that game to avoid relegation, and they did it in style. It was a great performance from the whole team, and it was good to see Kieffer Moore get on the scoresheet."
Bellamy believes Wales can now push on and achieve success in the future. "I think this win can be a turning point for Wales," he said. "They have a lot of young players in the team, and they are starting to gel. I think they can be a force to be reckoned with in the future.
