DP World Tour Championship: Rory McIlroy in three-way tie for lead
McIlroy, Fleetwood and Hovland all level on 12-under par after second round
Rory McIlroy is in a three-way tie for the lead after the second round of the DP World Tour Championship, alongside Tyrrell Hatton and Viktor Hovland.
The trio are all on 12-under par after carding rounds of 67, 65 and 66 respectively on Friday.
McIlroy made a strong start to the day with three birdies in his first four holes, and he added another three on the back nine to move into contention.
Hatton reached the turn in 32 thanks to four birdies, and he picked up another shot on the 10th before dropping a bogey on the 11th. He then birdied the 12th, 14th and 16th to move into a share of the lead.
Hovland also made a strong start with three birdies in his first five holes, and he added another two on the back nine to move into contention.
The Norwegian then birdied the 10th and 12th to move into a share of the lead, and he held on to his position with a par on the 18th.
The trio will now head into the weekend in a strong position to claim the title and the Race to Dubai crown.
McIlroy is the defending champion and will be looking to win the tournament for the third time in his career.
Hatton is also a former champion, having won the title in 2017, and he will be hoping to add a second victory to his name this week.
Hovland is a relative newcomer to the DP World Tour, but he has already made a big impact and will be looking to add another title to his name this week.
The DP World Tour Championship is the final event of the European Tour season, and it will be interesting to see who comes out on top in the Race to Dubai standings.
