Frank Skinner addresses Absolute Radio sacking as he's 'blown away' by Scouser's gesture
Frank Skinner has revealed he was 'blown away' by the response he received after being sacked by Absolute Radio, with one Scouser even offering him a pint.
The comedian, 65, was axed from his Absolute Radio show last month after 16 years on air, with the station saying it wanted to 'freshen up' its weekend schedule.
Speaking on his new podcast, Skinner said he was 'blown away' by the number of messages of support he received after the news broke, including one from a Scouser who offered to buy him a pint.
'I was blown away by the response,' Skinner said. 'I had one guy from Liverpool, a Scouser, who said, "Frank, I'm so sorry to hear the news. I'm going to buy you a pint when you're next in Liverpool."'
'I thought that was so kind. It's just one of those things that makes you realize that there are some good people in the world.'
Skinner also said he was 'disappointed' to be leaving Absolute Radio, but he understood the station's decision to 'freshen up' its schedule.
'I was disappointed to leave Absolute Radio, but I understand that they wanted to freshen up the schedule,' he said. 'I wish them all the best.'
Skinner's departure from Absolute Radio comes after a number of other high-profile DJs have left the station in recent months, including Christian O'Connell and Dave Berry.
The station has said that it is 'committed to providing the best possible entertainment for its listeners' and that it is 'confident that the new schedule will be even better than before.'
