Harrogate Town v Chesterfield: Simon Weaver on States-side links plus a key 'blow'
Weaver gives green light to Stateside links as Town eye National League glory
Simon Weaver insists Harrogate Town won't be resting on their laurels despite crushing Chesterfield 3-0 at the EnviroVent Stadium to extend their lead at the top of the National League to 11 points.
The Sulphurites boss was delighted with his side's performance against the Spireites, but he knows there is still a long way to go in the title race.
"We're not getting carried away," Weaver told the Harrogate Advertiser. "We know there are still 15 games to go and a lot of things can happen in that time."
Weaver welcomes Stateside links
One of the things that could happen is a takeover of the club by an American consortium.
Weaver has given his backing to the proposed deal, which would see Town become the latest in a growing number of English clubs to be owned by investors from the United States.
"I think it's a good thing for the club," Weaver said. "It would give us the financial backing we need to compete at the next level."
Key blow for Town as Falkingham ruled out
However, Weaver has been dealt a blow with the news that defender Will Falkingham is set to miss the rest of the season with a knee injury.
Falkingham, who has been one of Town's key players this season, suffered the injury in the win over Chesterfield.
"It's a big blow for us," Weaver said. "Will has been outstanding for us this season and he will be a big miss."
Weaver confident Town can cope without Falkingham
Despite the loss of Falkingham, Weaver is confident that Town can cope without him.
"We've got a good squad and I'm sure we can find someone to step into Will's shoes," Weaver said.
"We've got a lot of big games coming up and we need to make sure we're ready for them."
Town's next game
Town's next game is at home to Barnet on Saturday, February 25.
The Bees are currently 12th in the National League, but they have won their last two games.
"It's going to be a tough game," Weaver said. "Barnet are a good side and they'll be looking to make it three wins in a row."
"But we're confident we can get the win and keep our title challenge on track."
