How Springboks deal with 'aggressive defences'...
INJURY BLOW FOR WALES
Wales will be without the services of experienced centre Jonathan Davies for next Saturday’s clash against South Africa in Cardiff, after the Scarlets midfielder suffered an ankle injury in training on Tuesday.
The 32-year-old, who has won 99 caps for his country, is a key part of Wayne Pivac’s plans and his absence will be a major blow to the Wales team.
The South African defence will be licking their lips for the chance to showcase their abilities against a team likely to be featuring uncapped centre Johnny Williams and Owen Watkin, who has just five test caps to his name.
Attacking frailties
The Springboks showed plenty of attacking flair in their warm-up matches against Georgia and the British and Irish Lions, but they still have some work to do on their defence.
They conceded three tries against Georgia and two against the Lions, and they will need to be much tighter if they want to beat Wales in Cardiff.
The Welsh have a dangerous backline, led by Louis Rees-Zammit and Josh Adams, and they will be looking to exploit any weaknesses in the South African defence.
Defensive prowess
The Springboks, however, will be confident in their ability to contain the Wales attack.
They have one of the best defences in the world, and they will be looking to put pressure on the Wales ball-carriers and force them into mistakes.
The likes of Eben Etzebeth, Lood de Jager and Siya Kolisi will be key to the Springboks’ defensive effort, and they will be looking to make life difficult for the Wales attackers.
It should be a fascinating clash between two of the world’s best teams, and the Springboks will be confident of victory if they can reproduce the defensive performance they showed against the Lions.
