Il Ridoto Takes the Paddy Power Gold Cup at Cheltenham
Il Ridoto emerged victorious in a thrilling Paddy Power Gold Cup, securing the first Cheltenham Festival success for trainer Paul Nolan.
Ridden by Sean Bowen, Il Ridoto surged past long-time leader Coole Cody after the last fence to win by two and a quarter lengths.
Coole Cody looked set for a famous victory in the £250,000 contest, but he was unable to sustain his challenge up the hill.
Il Ridoto, who was sent off a 16-1 chance, had finished fourth in the race 12 months ago.
"It is fantastic," said Nolan. "It is a dream to have a winner at the Cheltenham Festival."
"He jumped very well and traveled well throughout the race. He stayed on really well up the hill."
"He is a horse that keeps galloping and he just wore the other horse down in the end."
Bowen added: "It is a dream come true to ride a winner at Cheltenham.
"He jumped fantastically, traveled well, and when I asked him to go he went."
"I'm delighted for Paul, the owners, and everyone involved with the horse."
Il Ridoto's victory was a first for Nolan at the Cheltenham Festival, and it was also a first for Bowen.
The win was a testament to the hard work and dedication of the trainer and jockey, and it was a moment that they will never forget.
