Ireland braced for five-day blizzard as Met Eireann confirm exact counties to be hit
Ireland is set to be battered by a five-day blizzard with up to 25cm of snow expected to fall in places.
Met Eireann has issued a Status Orange weather warning for snow and ice for 12 counties.
The national forecaster has warned of "significant" snow accumulations, with up to 25cm expected to fall in some areas.
The warning is in place for Carlow, Kilkenny, Laois, Longford, Louth, Meath, Offaly, Westmeath, Wexford, Wicklow, Tipperary and Waterford.
Met Eireann has said that snow showers will become widespread on Sunday night and will continue throughout Monday and Tuesday.
The forecaster has warned that the snow will be accompanied by strong winds, leading to blizzard-like conditions in some areas.
People are being advised to avoid unnecessary travel and to take precautions such as keeping their homes well-heated and having plenty of food and water in case of power outages.
The warning comes as Ireland is already experiencing a cold snap, with temperatures dropping below freezing overnight.
The cold weather is expected to continue for the rest of the week, with further snow and ice warnings likely.
Here are some tips to help you stay safe during the cold weather:

- Keep your home well-heated.
- Have plenty of food and water on hand in case of power outages.
- Check on elderly or vulnerable neighbors to make sure they are safe and have what they need.
