Joe Schmidt explains reasoning behind dropping Joseph Suaalii
Former Wallabies coach opens up on tough call
Schmidt says Suaalii needs more time to develop
Former Wallabies coach Joe Schmidt has explained the reasoning behind his decision to drop Joseph Suaalii for the upcoming Rugby Championship.
Suaalii, 19, was one of the most exciting young players in Australian rugby last year, but he has struggled to find his best form in 2023.
Schmidt said he made the tough decision to drop Suaalii because he believes the young star needs more time to develop.
"Joseph is a very talented player, but he's still very young and he's still learning the game," Schmidt said.
"I think he needs more time to develop his game and to get some more experience at the highest level."
Schmidt said he believes Suaalii has the potential to be a great player, but he needs to be patient.
"I'm confident that Joseph will come back stronger and better," Schmidt said.
"He's a tough kid and he's got a great attitude, so I'm sure he'll learn from this experience and come back stronger."
