Jon Jones Explains His Weight Loss For Stipe Miocic Fight

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones has addressed speculation that he purposely came in 11 pounds lighter than his scheduled heavyweight bout with Stipe Miocic at UFC 285. Jones, who was originally expected to face Miocic in a heavyweight title fight, was forced to withdraw from the bout after suffering an injury. In a recent interview with ESPN, Jones explained that he had been dealing with a foot injury that prevented him from training properly for the fight. He also said that he had lost a significant amount of weight due to the injury.

“I think I came in at 242, 243,” Jones said. “I was really light. I was really light for that fight. I had a foot injury that I was dealing with. I wasn’t able to train the way I wanted to train. I wasn’t able to grapple. I wasn’t able to do a lot of the things that I needed to do to prepare for a fight of that magnitude.”

Jones’s weight loss has led to speculation that he may have been trying to gain an advantage over Miocic. However, Jones denied that he purposely came in lighter than expected. He said that he was simply trying to lose weight to improve his speed and agility.

“I wasn’t trying to come in light to gain an advantage,” Jones said. “I was trying to come in light to be faster, to be more explosive, to be more agile. I think I would have had a better chance of winning the fight if I had been at my normal weight.”

Daniel Cormier Responds to Jon Jones's Explanation

Former UFC heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier has responded to Jones's explanation for his weight loss. Cormier, who is a close friend and rival of Jones, said that he believes Jones is telling the truth about his injury. However, he also said that he thinks Jones made a mistake by not informing the UFC about his injury sooner.

“I believe Jon when he says he was injured,” Cormier said. “I think he made a mistake by not telling the UFC about it sooner. But I believe him when he says he wasn’t trying to gain an advantage by coming in lighter.”

Cormier also said that he thinks Jones would have had a better chance of winning the fight if he had been at his normal weight. He said that Jones is a better fighter when he is bigger and stronger.

“I think Jon would have had a better chance of winning the fight if he had been at his normal weight,” Cormier said. “I think he’s a better fighter when he’s bigger and stronger. But I also think he made a mistake by not telling the UFC about his injury sooner.”
