Lyndon Dykes has insisted that he is "unfazed" by Jack Grealish's decision to represent England over Scotland. The QPR striker was called up to the Scotland squad for the first time in 2020 and has since made six appearances for his country.
Grealish, who was born in England but qualifies for Scotland through his grandparents, made his debut for the Three Lions in 2020. His decision to represent England was met with some criticism from some Scotland fans, but Dykes says he understands why Grealish made the choice.
"I was boss when he defected to England - I couldn't care less"
“I think Jack made the decision that was best for him at the time,” Dykes said. “He’s a great player and I’m sure he’ll have a successful career with England. I’m just focused on my own career with Scotland and I’m excited about the future.”
Dykes has scored three goals in his six appearances for Scotland and is expected to be part of the squad for the upcoming UEFA Nations League matches against Ukraine and the Republic of Ireland. He is also hoping to be part of the Scotland squad for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
“I’m really proud to represent Scotland and I’m determined to help the team achieve success,” Dykes said. “I believe we have a good squad and we can qualify for the World Cup. It would be a dream come true to play in a major tournament for my country.”
