Moto2 Barcelona: Driven by "the desire to win for Valencia", Aron Canet dominates the Barcelona GP
Canet claims his second win of the season, extending his championship lead
Aron Canet (Flexbox HP 40) has taken a dominant victory in the Moto2 race at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, leading from start to finish to claim his second win of the season. The Spaniard was in a class of his own throughout the race, setting the fastest lap of the race and finishing over two seconds clear of his nearest rival.
A thrilling battle for the podium
Behind Canet, there was a thrilling battle for the podium. Augusto Fernandez (Red Bull KTM Ajo) and Ai Ogura (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia) swapped the lead several times, with Ogura eventually coming out on top to take second place. Fernandez had to settle for third, but he extended his championship lead over Canet to 12 points.
Canet dedicates his victory to his late father
After the race, Canet dedicated his victory to his late father, who passed away in a motorcycle accident in 2019. "This win is for my father," said Canet. "He always believed in me, and I know he would be so proud of me today." Canet's victory is a timely boost for his championship hopes. The Spaniard now has a 10-point lead over Fernandez in the standings, with just three races remaining in the season.
