Moto2: Canet on Pole Position at Catalunya
Canet Takes First Pole of the Season
Aron Canet claimed his first pole position of the 2023 Moto2 season at the Catalunya Grand Prix. The Spaniard set a scorching lap time of 1:42.211 to secure the top spot on the grid ahead of Pedro Acosta and Jake Dixon.
Canet's Dominance in Practice
Canet's pole position came as no surprise, as he had been consistently fast throughout the practice sessions. He topped the timesheets in FP1 and FP3, and was second quickest in FP2 behind Acosta.
Canet's performance in practice was a clear indication of his strong pace and his determination to challenge for the win at Catalunya. The Spaniard is one of the most experienced riders in Moto2, and he will be hoping to use that experience to his advantage in the race.
Acosta and Dixon Impress
While Canet was the standout performer in practice, Acosta and Dixon also impressed. Acosta, who is a rookie in Moto2, qualified in second place just 0.054 seconds behind Canet. Dixon, meanwhile, qualified in third place a further 0.063 seconds adrift of Acosta.
Acosta's performance in qualifying was particularly impressive, as he is still adapting to the Moto2 bike. The Spaniard is one of the most highly-rated young riders in the world, and he will be hoping to make a big impact in his debut Moto2 season.
Tight Grid for Sunday's Race
The qualifying session at Catalunya produced a tight grid for Sunday's race. The top six riders were separated by less than half a second, indicating that the race could be very close.
Canet will start from pole position, but he will face a tough challenge from Acosta and Dixon. Other riders to watch out for in the race include Tony Arbolino, Celestino Vietti, and Joe Roberts.
