Murder investigation launched after two people killed
Incident happened in Toxteth
Police have launched a murder investigation after two people were fatally stabbed in the Toxteth area of Liverpool on Sunday night. The victims, a man and a woman in their 20s, were pronounced dead at the scene. A 28-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in police custody.
Police statement
In a statement, Merseyside Police said: "We are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information to come forward. We are particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have seen the offender fleeing the scene." The force has also urged anyone with mobile phone footage of the incident to get in touch.
Investigation ongoing
The investigation is ongoing and detectives are working to establish the circumstances surrounding the deaths. The scene has been cordoned off and forensic officers are carrying out a detailed examination of the area. Police are also reviewing CCTV footage from the area in an attempt to piece together the events leading up to the stabbings.
Tributes paid
Tributes have been paid to the victims, who have been named locally as 22-year-old Elle Edwards and 26-year-old Connor Chapman. Ms Edwards was a beautician and make-up artist, while Mr Chapman was a personal trainer. Friends and family have described the pair as "beautiful souls" and "kind-hearted." A vigil is expected to be held in Toxteth on Monday night in memory of the victims.
