National League: Key West Country tests for York City and FC Halifax Town
York City strengthen their goalkeeping options with a loan move from Manchester United
York City have signed goalkeeper Jacob Carney on loan for the rest of the season. It’s been a busy January for the Minstermen who move into the final part of the season where they hope to push for promotion. Carney is yet to make a first-team appearance for Manchester United but has represented the club at reserve and U23 level.
Carney has been with Manchester United since he was eight years old and has represented England at U16, U17, U18 and U19 level. The goalkeeper is seen as one of the brightest young talents in the country. His signing will boost the York City squad as they aim to achieve promotion and possibly challenge Wrexham at the top of the league.
FC Halifax Town sign goalkeeper Sam Johnson from York City
Halifax Town have signed goalkeeper Sam Johnson from York City on loan for the rest of the season. Johnson signed for the Minstermen in 2021 from Blyth Spartans after being the No. 1 at Blyth. He has also played for Spennymoor Town and Darlington during his career.
The 30-year-old is an experienced goalkeeper who has made over 500 appearances in his career. He had made 30 appearances for York City this season but has now headed out on loan to Halifax Town. The Shaymen will be battling relegation for the rest of the season and Johnson has been brought in to help achieve that goal.
