Nations League: Ferguson heads Ireland winner as Tonali strike rocks Belgium
Jack Ferguson's header secured Ireland a famous 1-0 Nations League victory over Ukraine in Dublin on Tuesday night.
The 22-year-old defender met Robbie Brady's cross from the right with a powerful header that flew into the top corner in the 48th minute.
It was Ferguson's first international goal and it proved to be the winner as Ukraine failed to find an equaliser in the remaining 42 minutes.
The win moved Ireland up to second place in Group B1, with seven points from four games, and they will now face Scotland in a crucial clash in Glasgow on Saturday.
Ukraine, meanwhile, remain bottom of the group with just one point from four games.
In the other Group B1 game on Tuesday night, Italy secured a 1-0 win over Belgium in Brussels.
Sandro Tonali scored the only goal of the game in the 52nd minute, firing home from the edge of the area after good work from Nicolo Barella.
The win moved Italy up to top spot in Group B1, with nine points from four games, while Belgium dropped down to third place with six points from four games.
