Cork County Council states it cannot provide exact date

Cork County Council states it cannot provide an exact date for the reopening of Ballycotton Bridge and Garryvoe Bridge as works are expected to take months.

The bridges were both damaged during severe flooding caused by Storm Babet in late October, which saw high winds and heavy rain batter the county.

The council said that a contractor has been appointed and the necessary equipment has been ordered, but that the works are complex and will take some time to complete.

Ballycotton Bridge is expected to fully reopen in June and Garryvoe Bridge in July, weather permitting. Until then, diversions are in place.

Emergency repairs funded by insurance

The council said that the emergency repairs are being funded by its insurance company and that it is working to ensure that the works are carried out as quickly and safely as possible.

The council also said that it is working with local businesses and residents to minimise the disruption caused by the closures.

Motorists are being advised to use alternative routes and to allow extra time for their journeys.
