Only Child - Gregor Fisher, Greg McHugh and the cast reflect on the new comedy series - "there's a real clash of characters"

The new BBC Scotland comedy series Only Child is a heart-warming and hilarious look at the lives of a group of friends and family in Glasgow.

The show stars Gregor Fisher as James, a lifelong bachelor who is struggling to come to terms with his new role as a father. Greg McHugh plays James' son Michael, a young man who is trying to find his place in the world.

The cast also includes Michelle Gomez as James' sister Mary, Paul Riley as James' best friend Archie, and Ashley Jensen as Michael's love interest.

The show is written by David Maclennan, who is best known for his work on the BBC Scotland sitcom Still Game

Speaking about the show, Maclennan said: "Only Child is a show about family, friendship and the challenges of growing up. It's a funny and heartwarming story about characters who are trying to find their place in the world."

"There's a real clash of characters in the show," said Fisher. "James is a grumpy old man, but he's also got a heart of gold. Michael is a young man who is trying to find his place in the world. Mary is a successful businesswoman who is trying to balance her career and her family. Archie is a kind and gentle man who is always there for his friends. And Ellie is a young woman who is trying to find her own voice." "I think audiences are going to love Only Child," said McHugh. "It's a funny and heartwarming show about characters that everyone can relate to."

Only Child will air on BBC Scotland on January 17th, 2023.
