Rossoneri defender earns maiden call-up

Roberto Mancini has included AC Milan defender Daniel Maldini and Borussia Monchengladbach forward Marcus Thuram in his squad for upcoming friendlies against France and Ukraine.

Maldini, the son of Rossoneri legend Paolo, has been in impressive form for his club this season, making 10 appearances in all competitions and scoring once.

Thuram, meanwhile, has been capped three times by France but has yet to make his debut for the senior team.

The 24-year-old has been in good form for Gladbach this season, scoring five goals in 13 appearances.

Italy will face France in Nice on November 16 before taking on Ukraine in Lviv three days later.

France sweating on Benzema fitness

Karim Benzema is a doubt for France's upcoming friendly against Italy after picking up a knock in Real Madrid's 2-1 win over Elche on Saturday.

The Ballon d'Or winner was substituted in the second half of the match and is now being assessed by the French medical team.

If Benzema is ruled out of the game against Italy, it would be a major blow for Didier Deschamps' side.
