Chelsea moved top of the Women's Super League table with a 2-1 win over reigning champions Manchester City.

The Blues took the lead through an Erin Cuthbert strike, but City equalised through Laura Coombs. However, goals from Guro Reiten and Jessie Fleming secured the victory for Chelsea. The win sees Chelsea move two points clear of Manchester United at the top of the table, with City dropping to third.

Chelsea started the game brightly and took the lead in the 10th minute when Cuthbert fired home from close range.

City equalised in the 25th minute when Coombs scored from a free-kick. However, Chelsea regained the lead in the 35th minute when Reiten scored a stunning goal from outside the box. Fleming added a third for Chelsea in the 70th minute to secure the victory. The win was Chelsea's third in a row in the WSL and their fourth in all competitions. They will now be looking to extend their winning run when they face Arsenal in the League Cup semi-finals on Wednesday.

City, meanwhile, have now lost two of their last three games in the WSL. They will be looking to bounce back when they face Liverpool in the League Cup semi-finals on Thursday.

Chelsea manager Emma Hayes was delighted with her team's performance. "I thought we were excellent today," she said. "We played with great intensity and we created a lot of chances. "We showed great character to come back from behind and win the game. We're now top of the table and we're looking forward to the rest of the season."

City manager Gareth Taylor was disappointed with his team's performance. "I thought we were second best today," he said. "We didn't play with enough intensity and we didn't create enough chances. "We need to improve our performance levels if we want to challenge for the title."
