Russ Wilcox: Gainsborough Trinity Ready for “Another Challenge” in FA Trophy

Gainsborough Trinity manager Russ Wilcox is relishing the prospect of another FA Trophy tie

The Blues boss guided his side to a 3-1 victory over National League North rivals Curzon Ashton in the first round of the competition on Saturday.

And now they will travel to National League side Altrincham in the second round on Saturday, November 26.

Wilcox believes his side can cause an upset

“It is another challenge for us,” Wilcox told the Gainsborough Standard.

“It is a great competition to be involved in and we are looking forward to it.

“We have got a good group of players here and we believe we can cause an upset.”

Gainsborough have a good record in the FA Trophy

The Blues have won the competition twice, in 1989 and 2018.

They have also reached the final three times, in 2004, 2009 and 2015.

Wilcox is hoping his side can add to their impressive record in the competition.

Altrincham will be a tough test

Altrincham are currently 12th in the National League.

They have won four of their last six games in all competitions.

Wilcox knows his side will need to be at their best to get a result.

Gainsborough will be confident

The Blues go into the game on the back of a good run of form.

They have won three of their last four games in all competitions.

Wilcox is confident his side can cause an upset.
