Serious crash on M25 sees air ambulance land and long queues

Emergency services rushed to the scene of a serious crash on the M25 this morning.

The crash, which involved three lorries and a car, happened on the clockwise carriageway between junctions 25 and 26 near Waltham Abbey, Essex.

An air ambulance was called to the scene and landed on the motorway, while police and fire crews worked to free the trapped motorists.

The motorway was closed in both directions for several hours while the emergency services dealt with the incident.

Long queues of traffic built up in both directions, with delays of up to two hours.

The motorway was eventually reopened around 11am, but there are still some residual delays in the area.

The cause of the crash is still being investigated, but police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Anyone who saw the crash or has any information about what happened is asked to contact Essex Police on 101.

In a statement, Essex Police said:

"We are appealing for witnesses to a serious collision on the M25 this morning.

"The collision involved three lorries and a car and happened on the clockwise carriageway between junctions 25 and 26 near Waltham Abbey, Essex.
