Shane McGuigan Says Brendan Rodgers Nailed It In The Slaughtneil Dressing Room At Full-Time

Slaughtneil manager praises Leicester City boss after his inspirational talk

Brendan Rodgers will always be a welcome guest in Slaughtneil after his inspirational talk to the players in the dressing room after their All-Ireland club SFC triumph on Saturday.

The former Celtic and Liverpool boss was a surprise guest at the post-match function in Dublin's Croke Park following Slaughtneil's 1-15 to 0-12 victory over Dublin's Kilmacud Crokes.

And Slaughtneil manager Shane McGuigan revealed that Rodgers' message to his players had a profound effect.

"Brendan came into the dressing room and spoke to the players for about 15 minutes," said McGuigan.

"He spoke about his own experiences in football and how important it is to enjoy the moment and to never give up on your dreams."

"His words were very inspiring and they really resonated with the players."

McGuigan said that Rodgers' talk was the perfect way to end a perfect day for Slaughtneil.

"It was an incredible day for our club and our community," said McGuigan.

"To win the All-Ireland title is a dream come true for all of us and Brendan's words just made it even more special."

Rodgers, who is a keen GAA fan, has previously spoken about his admiration for Slaughtneil's achievements.

In an interview with The Irish News in 2019, Rodgers said that Slaughtneil were "a great example of what can be achieved through hard work and dedication."

"They are a credit to their community and to Gaelic football," Rodgers said.

Slaughtneil's victory on Saturday was their second All-Ireland club SFC title in three years.

They are the first club from Ulster to win the title more than once since Crossmaglen Rangers in 2012.
