'This is what you dream of' - 18-year-old Freddie Gingell stars at Cheltenham again on Il Ridoto in Paddy Power Gold Cup
Gingell becomes youngest jockey ever to win the Paddy Power Gold Cup
Eighteen-year-old Freddie Gingell celebrated another slice of racing history as Il Ridoto produced a stunning round of jumping to claim a famous victory in the Paddy Power Gold Cup at Cheltenham.
On the day the legendary Istabraq was honored with a statue at the track, it was another young Irish horse who stole the show as Il Ridoto, trained by Mouse Morris, held off the challenge of stablemate The Storyteller.
Gingell praises Il Ridoto
Gingell, who became the youngest jockey to ride a winner at the Cheltenham Festival in March, was coolness personified as he guided the 6-1 chance to a famous success.
"This is what you dream of," said Gingell.
"I'm just so lucky to get the opportunity to ride horses like him. He's a very, very special horse."
Morris hails 'great ride'
Morris, enjoying a memorable first day of the three-day November Meeting, was quick to praise Gingell's contribution.
"Freddie gave him a great ride," said Morris.
"He's a very talented young rider and he's going to be a top jockey."
Il Ridoto's impressive form
Il Ridoto has now won three of his last four starts, including the Grade 2 Clonmel Oil Chase in October.
The seven-year-old is likely to be aimed at the Cheltenham Gold Cup in March, a race his trainer won in 2003 with War of Attrition.
"He's a horse that's improving all the time," said Morris.
"He's got a big future ahead of him."
