'This was always the target' - L'Eau Du Sud looks to back up emphatic chasing debut success in Arkle Trial

L'Eau Du Sud, trained by Gordon Elliott, is set to compete in the Arkle Trial at Leopardstown on December 26.

The horse is coming back from injury and a successful chasing debut

In his chasing debut, L'Eau Du Sud won the Grade 2 Florida Pearl Novice Chase by 21 lengths at Punchestown last month.

Prior to that victory, the horse was injured at the Punchestown Festival in April.

Elliott said that the Arkle Trial was always on the agenda for L'Eau Du Sud and that the horse is in good shape.

The Arkle Trial is a Grade 2 steeplechase race run over a distance of about 2 miles and 3 furlongs.

The race is a prep race for the Arkle Trophy, a Grade 1 steeplechase race run at the Cheltenham Festival in March.

L'Eau Du Sud is one of the leading contenders for the Arkle Trophy.

The other leading contenders for the Arkle Trophy include Jonbon, trained by Nicky Henderson, and El Fabiolo, trained by Willie Mullins.

Jonbon is a two-time Grade 1 winner, while El Fabiolo is a Grade 1 winner.

The Arkle Trophy is one of the most prestigious races for novice steeplechasers in the UK and Ireland.

It is a race that has been won by some of the best steeplechasers in history.
