City enacts measures to reduce waitlists for social housing
The city of Toronto is hoping to start reducing waitlists for social housing and help people find a safe and affordable place to live. The lotteries will open for applications on June 15th, 2023.
The city's housing waitlist has grown to over 100,000 households and city officials are concerned. The city plans to build 40,000 new affordable rental homes over the next 10 years to address this issue.
The new affordable rental homes will be spread across the city and will be a mix of sizes and types, including:
- 1-bedroom apartments
- 2-bedroom apartments
- 3-bedroom apartments
- 4-bedroom apartments
Income eligibility to qualify for the lottery
To qualify for the lottery, households must meet certain income eligibility requirements. The income limits for 2023 are:
- 1-person household: $46,600
- 2-person household: $53,200
- 3-person household: $61,000
- 4-person household: $68,800
Households that meet the income eligibility requirements can apply for the lottery through the city's website or by calling 311.
Lottery Details
The lottery will open for applications on June 15, 2023 and will close on July 15, 2023. Successful applicants will be notified by the end of August 2023.
