Ulster Club SHC: Slaughtneil Defeat Cushendall After Titanic Struggle
Slaughtneil have won their fifth Ulster club hurling title after a titanic struggle against Cushendall at Corrigan Park on Sunday.
In a match that ebbed and flowed throughout, Slaughtneil eventually prevailed by 2-17 to 2-16.
The Derry champions were first out of the blocks and led by 0-8 to 0-3 after 20 minutes, but Cushendall fought back to trail by just two points at the break.
The second half was just as tight, with the sides level on several occasions.
Cushendall took the lead for the first time in the 55th minute, but Slaughtneil responded with a goal from Christopher McKaigue two minutes later.
Cushendall levelled the match again with a goal from Eoghan Rua, but Slaughtneil regained the lead with a point from Shane McGuigan.
In a dramatic finish, Cushendall had a chance to win the game in the dying seconds, but Shea Cassidy's effort went wide and Slaughtneil held on for a famous victory.
The win was Slaughtneil's fifth Ulster club title in the last six years.
It was also a record-breaking win for manager Michael McShane, who has now led Slaughtneil to five Ulster club titles and two All-Ireland club titles.
