FC Barcelona Ace Admits Doubting He’d Ever ‘Fully Recover’ From Injury
Barcelona forward Ousmane Dembele admits he doubted he'd ever 'fully recover' from injury
Ousmane Dembele has admitted he doubted he would ever "fully recover" from the serious knee injury he suffered in 2017.
The Barcelona forward, who has been plagued by injuries throughout his career, ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee while playing for Borussia Dortmund in September 2017.
Dembele underwent surgery and spent several months on the sidelines
He eventually returned to action in January 2018, but he has since suffered a number of other setbacks.
In an interview with beIN Sports, Dembele admitted that he had doubts about whether he would ever be able to return to his best form.
"I doubted whether I would fully recover"
"I doubted whether I would fully recover," he said. "It was a very difficult time for me. I was very young and I had just arrived at a new club.
"I didn't know if I would be able to play at the same level again. But I worked hard and I never gave up. I'm very grateful to be back playing again."
Dembele has been in impressive form for Barcelona this season
The 22-year-old has scored nine goals in 23 appearances in all competitions, and he has helped Barcelona to the top of the La Liga table.
However, Dembele is still not fully over his injury problems. He missed several games earlier this season with a hamstring injury, and he is currently out with a thigh problem.
Dembele is determined to prove he can stay fit
Despite his injury problems, Dembele is determined to prove that he can stay fit and fulfill his potential at Barcelona.
"I'm not going to give up," he said. "I'm going to keep working hard and I'm going to prove that I can be a success at Barcelona."
