Leona Maguire to miss out on chase for a slice of $11 million jackpot after missing the cut
Leona Maguire's hopes of winning a share of the $11 million jackpot at the CME Group Tour Championship have been dashed after she missed the cut.
The Irish golfer carded rounds of 73 and 74 at Tiburón Golf Club in Naples, Florida, to finish at one-over-par, five shots outside the cut line.
Maguire, who won the LPGA Drive On Championship in February, had been hoping to finish the season on a high by claiming the biggest prize in women's golf.
However, she will now have to watch on from the sidelines as the top 60 players on the LPGA Tour compete for the $1.5 million first prize.
The CME Group Tour Championship is the final event of the LPGA Tour season, and it brings together the top 60 players on the money list.
The winner of the tournament will receive a check for $1.5 million, while the runner-up will take home $900,000 and the third-place finisher will receive $600,000.
Maguire's missed cut is a disappointing end to a season that has seen her make great strides in her career.
The 27-year-old has recorded four top-10 finishes on the LPGA Tour this year, and she has also represented Europe in the Solheim Cup.
However, she will be hoping to bounce back from this setback and start the new season strongly.
