Ramoreboli Starts Botswana Zebras Tenure With Draw
Botswana Held by Eswatini in AFCON Qualifier
Ramoreboli's First Game in Charge Ends in Stalemate
Botswana's new coach, Peter Ramoreboli, began his tenure with a 1-1 draw against Eswatini in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Saturday.
The Zebras took the lead through Tumisang Orebonye in the 15th minute, but Eswatini equalized through Sabelo Ndzinisa just before half-time.
The result leaves Botswana third in Group K, behind Eswatini and Senegal.
Ramoreboli's Cautious Approach
Ramoreboli, who was appointed in May, adopted a cautious approach to the game, fielding a team with five defenders.
This approach seemed to work initially, as Botswana took the lead early on.
However, Eswatini grew into the game and deservedly equalized before half-time.
Second Half Disappointment
Botswana failed to create many clear-cut chances in the second half and will be disappointed not to have won the game.
The Zebras had chances to win it late on, but they could not find a way past the Eswatini defense.
Overall, it was a disappointing start to Ramoreboli's reign, but there were some positives to take from the performance.
Botswana's AFCON Hopes
Botswana's hopes of qualifying for the Africa Cup of Nations are still alive, but they will need to improve their results in their remaining games.
The Zebras will face Senegal in their next qualifier in September.
A win against Senegal would put Botswana in a strong position to qualify for the tournament.
Ramoreboli's Future
It is too early to judge Ramoreboli's performance as Botswana coach based on one game.
However, he will need to improve the team's results if he wants to keep his job.
Botswana has a talented squad, and they should be capable of qualifying for the Africa Cup of Nations.
