RESULTS: New Caledonia nab semi-final spot in FIFA World Cup Oceania series
New Caledonia booked their berth in the semi-finals of the FIFA World Cup Oceania series with a 1-0 victory against Tahiti in the last quarter-final at Stade Numa-Daly in Noumea.
The hosts never looked in danger of surrendering their advantage after Jean-Philippe Saiko struck midway through the first half.
New Caledonia will now play the winner of the clash between the Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea on Wednesday.
Tahiti had the best of the early chances with goalkeeper Rocky Nyikeine forced into two early saves.
However, it was New Caledonia who took the lead in the 22nd minute.
Saiko latched onto a through ball from Antoine Roine before firing past goalkeeper Mikaƫl Roche.
Tahiti had their chances to level in the second half but failed to convert in front of goal.
New Caledonia almost doubled their advantage late on but Roine's effort deflected off the post.
New Caledonia held on to secure a 1-0 victory and a place in the semi-finals.
