SNL Digital Short: Andy Samberg and Charli XCX Are 'Itching to Do Some Snitching' in Lonely Island Video
Lonely Island Returns With Parody of '90s Anti-Drug PSAs
It has been way too long since we've heard from The Lonely Island. However, fans can finally rejoice as the comedy troupe has returned with a brand new 'Saturday Night Live' short to help usher Season 48 into our lives. In the latest outing from Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone, and Akiva Schaffer, the trio parodies those old, ridiculous anti-drug PSAs prevalent in the 1990s with the brand-new short film titled 'Itching to Snitch.' And, they've even recruited pop star Charli XCX for good measure.
A War on Drugs, But Make It Fashion
The short begins with Samberg and Schaffer playing a pair of undercover cops posing undercover as high school kids Samberg with a terrible bleach blonde dye job, Schaffer rocking a fedora that would make Pharrell blush in 2004. They're staking out a high school party, ready to take down a drug dealer... but not without a little help from XCX, who portrays the school guidance counselor, and Taccone, who plays the concerned principal. As the pair of undercover detectives wait for their target to appear, Samberg starts to have second thoughts.
Inspired by XCX's encouragement and Taccone's insistence, Samberg eventually musters the courage to narc on the bad guy dealing drugs to kids. However, the twist comes when Samberg reveals he's actually itching to snitch on the real bad guy in the school - the cafeteria lady! Apparently, she's been putting MSG in the chicken nuggets, which, according to Samberg's character, is way worse than any hard drug.
An Important Message in a Hilarious Package
While the short functions as a parody of those over-the-top, ineffective anti-drug PSAs, it also delivers a valuable message about the dangers of drugs and the importance of speaking up if you see something wrong. The Lonely Island has always been great at finding humor in important issues, and 'Itching to Snitch' is no exception. The video is funny, catchy, and ultimately sends a positive message about standing up for what's right.
