State swimming: Selah's Myers cracks top five in two events
Selah junior earns pair of medals at Class 1A state meet
Selah junior swimmer Tristan Myers capped his first state swimming meet with a pair of top-five finishes, earning medals for a pair of third-place finishes.
Swimmers from Selah's boys and girls swimming and diving squads competed in the Class 1A state meet in Federal Way on Feb. 16-18, with Myers finishing third in both the 100-yard breaststroke and 200 individual medley.
Myers earned the bronze medal in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:02.50, trailing only Burlington sophomore Seager Pate (1:00.59) and Chelan sophomore Luke Perry (1:01.37).
He then took third in the 200 IM with a time of 2:04.58, behind North Beach junior Sterling Behnke (2:01.77) and Mount Baker junior Hawthorne Lindemoen (2:03.46).
Myers also took 10th in the 100 butterfly with a time of 56.61.
Other Selah boys who competed at state included JP Arredondo, Cody Cramer, Benjamin Craig, Evan Dubay, Aidan Hendrickson, Steven Johnson and Blake Sebastian.
The Selah girls were led by senior Shelby Kassner, who finished 12th in the 100 breaststroke (1:16.14).
Freshman Raeanne BaƱaga-Kashiwabara took 16th in the 500 free (5:48.69) while junior Joana Urquidez took 19th in the 200 IM with a time of 2:31.08.
Selah's girls finished 33rd out of 56 schools with 16 points, while the boys finished 41st out of 57 schools with 11 points.
