Strictly fans say 'oh dear' and issue complaint minutes into Blackpool Special
Fans complained after hearing a recorded track following Fleur East's performance on Strictly Come Dancing's Blackpool special.
Fans were left gobsmacked and bewildered on Saturday night (November 19) when they heard a backing track playing after Fleur East and her dance partner Vito Coppola's dance.
Strictly Come Dancing has come under fire from fans after a backing track was heard during Fleur East's performance on the show's Blackpool special.
The singer and her dance partner performed a Charleston to the track "Tu Vuo' Fa' L'Americano" by Renato Carosone, but viewers were quick to notice that the music continued to play after Fleur had finished dancing.
Many fans took to social media to complain about the use of a backing track, saying that it was unfair to the other contestants who had to perform live.
One fan tweeted: "What's going on with the backing track on #Strictly? Fleur East just finished dancing and the music is still playing. Not fair on the other contestants."
Another fan added: "I'm so disappointed that #Strictly is using backing tracks. It's not fair to the dancers who have to perform live."
A spokesperson for Strictly Come Dancing has since confirmed that a backing track was used during Fleur's performance, but they said that it was only used for a "few seconds" and that it was necessary to ensure that the sound quality was consistent.
The spokesperson said: "We can confirm that a backing track was used for a few seconds during Fleur East's performance on Strictly Come Dancing's Blackpool special.
This was due to a technical issue with the live band, and it was necessary to ensure that the sound quality was consistent for the performance."
The spokesperson added that the use of backing tracks is "very rare" on Strictly Come Dancing, and that the show is committed to providing a fair and level playing field for all contestants.
