Weather Warning Issued for Ireland as Storm Approaches
Met Éireann has issued a weather warning for Ireland as Storm approaches.
The national meteorological service has warned of severe weather conditions, including high winds and heavy rain, from Thursday evening into Friday morning. A Status Orange wind warning has been issued for Kerry, Cork, Waterford, Wexford, Kilkenny, Dublin, Wicklow, Carlow, Laois, Offaly, Kildare, Meath, Cavan, Monaghan, Donegal, Leitrim, Sligo, Mayo, Roscommon, Galway, Clare, Limerick and Tipperary.
What to expect
Met Éireann is forecasting winds of up to 130km/h in coastal areas, with gusts of up to 150km/h possible. The strongest winds are expected to hit overnight on Thursday into Friday morning. Heavy rain is also expected, with up to 50mm of rain possible in some areas. The rain is expected to be heaviest in the west and south of the country.
The weather warning is in place from 8pm on Thursday until 8am on Friday. Met Éireann is advising people to stay indoors during this time and to avoid any unnecessary travel.
What to do
If you must travel during the storm, please take the following precautions:
- Drive slowly and carefully, and be aware of fallen trees and debris.
- Do not cross flooded roads or bridges.
- Be aware of the risk of coastal flooding.
- Secure any loose items in your garden or balcony.
- Stay away from power lines and downed trees.
- If you see any flooding, please report it to your local authority.
