‘Why not dream?’ – L’Eau Du Sud oozes class in Arkle Trial success
L'Eau Du Sud boosted his Arkle claims with an impressive display in the Arkle Trial at Cheltenham on Saturday.
The five-year-old gelding, trained by Tom George, jumped superbly throughout the two-mile contest and quickened clear of his rivals in the home straight to score by an easy 10 lengths.
L'Eau Du Sud was sent off the 11-4 favourite for the Grade Two contest and he justified that position in style, giving jockey Adrian Heskin an easy ride.
Heskin said: "He's a lovely horse and he's done it nicely today. He jumped great and travelled well. He quickened up really well and he's got a lot of gears. He's a horse with a lot of potential.
George was delighted with the performance of his charge and he is now looking forward to the Arkle at the Cheltenham Festival in March.
He said: "He's a very good horse and he's improving all the time. He's still a bit green and he's learning, but he's got a lot of potential.
The Arkle is a Grade One race over two miles and is one of the most prestigious races for novice chasers in the National Hunt calendar.
L'Eau Du Sud is now one of the favourites for the race and he will be a major contender if he can continue to improve.
The gelding has won three of his four starts over fences and he looks to have a bright future ahead of him.
George added: "He's a horse with a lot of ability and he's still learning. He's got a great attitude and he's a pleasure to train.
L'Eau Du Sud is a son of the great Frankel and he is out of the mare La Vie En Rose. He was bred by the Niarchos family and is owned by the Amo Racing syndicate.
